Almost exactly a year ago to the date, on a wet and wild morning Steven and I drove up to Milldale’s Open Day to find out more about the development. Having been impressed with Generation Homes when we looked at Millwater the year before we made a beeline for their covered stand to chat to the dedicated and slightly frozen Hamish Jackson. Over an hour later, armed with lots of information, we headed back to our single glazed, non-insulated, cold rental to chat over our options. Having both grown up in Scotland in warm, dry and double glazed homes we quickly realised that in order to replicate that and not get any nasty surprises in our first home in NZ we needed to build and ensure it was with a great and reliable team.
Over the next few weeks, we pulled together our needs and desires list and discussed everything in detail with Hamish, whose patience for our endless questions never faltered. By the end of the month Hamish and his team produced a drawing of our dream home which was somehow within our budget. The flexibility and dedication to get everything as we wanted, without cutting corners, cemented the decision to sign on the dotted line with Generation Homes and secure our first home (and build) in NZ.
From there everything moved very quickly and before we knew it the ground was broken, and the frames were being erected. With 16 weeks to go none of our friends believed we would be in on time (they had all heard horror stories of other build company delays and excuses), something Generation proved wrong! We moved in on the pre-agreed date and were greeted at the handover by Hamish and the Managing Director, Peter Suckling welcoming us into our new home.
Throughout the whole build process the communication, advice, reassurance and thoughtfulness Hamish and the team demonstrated kept what we expected to be a very stressful time relatively stress free and enjoyable, which was key as we were also planning our wedding and visiting the UK for 3 weeks in the middle.
We are now settled into our home and the aftercare has been as exceptional as the build. If life ever changes and our home no longer meets our needs, we would not hesitate to build with Generation Homes again, thank you for making our dream house a reality.
